Breitenberg near Pfronten faces south. This means: with southerly winds, the air flows ideally along the slope and creates reliable updrafts. Westerly winds provide stable conditions, while northerly winds create tailwind at the launch site, making takeoff impossible.

Times of Day and Wind Behaviour

Early (7–10 AM)

Usually light wind (0–10 km/h). Very calm conditions. Ideal for nervous passengers and first flights.

Late Morning (10 AM–12 PM)

Moderate wind (5–15 km/h). First thermals developing. Best time for all passengers.

Midday (12–3 PM)

Stronger wind (10–25 km/h). Strong thermals for longer flights. Ideal for adventurous guests.

Evening (3–6 PM)

Decreasing wind (5–15 km/h). Gentle thermals and beautiful light. Perfect for photography and romantic flights.

Additional Weather Factors for Your Tandem Flight

Cloud Cover

Light cloud cover is ideal. Heavy overcast means weak thermals. Completely overcast sky allows flights only in light winds. Thunderclouds mean absolute flight ban.

Pilot Tip Partly cloudy = best thermals

Precipitation

Light drizzle allows flights. Moderate rain is not recommended. Heavy rain and thunderstorms always mean flight ban. In winter, snow conditions at the launch site decide.

Pilot Tip A rain window is often enough for the flight

Visibility

Over 5 km visibility offers perfect conditions with views of Zugspitze and Forggensee. 2–5 km means good conditions. Under 1 km visibility means absolute flight ban due to fog.

Pilot Tip Autumn days often offer the clearest views
