Main Causes of Nausea During Paragliding

Motion sickness during a tandem flight is rare but not unusual. Understanding the causes helps you prepare effectively — and arrive relaxed at the launch site.

  • Overly aggressive turns

Tight turns or intense thermal circles can overwhelm the balance system.

  • Empty or overly full stomach

Both hunger and a heavy meal can trigger nausea. A light snack 2–3 hours before is ideal.

  • Nervousness and stress

Excitement before your first flight can upset the stomach. Breathing exercises help ease the tension.

  • Unfavorable weather

Strong thermals or turbulent air can affect even experienced passengers. We only fly in optimal conditions.

How to Prevent Nausea — 6 Simple Steps

1

Light Meal

Eat a light meal 2–3 hours before your flight. A banana or granola bar 30 min before is ideal.

2

Skip Alcohol

Avoid alcohol 24 hours before your flight — it affects your balance system and can increase nausea risk.

3

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water. Dehydration makes motion sickness worse. Bring a small bottle if needed.

4

Rest Well

Get a good night's sleep before your flight day. Exhaustion increases sensitivity to motion.

5

Consider Medication

Motion sickness tablets or ginger capsules taken 1 hour before can significantly reduce symptoms.

6

Tell Your Pilot

Inform us about your sensitivity when booking. We'll assign a pilot experienced with sensitive passengers.

What Happens If Nausea Occurs?

Even if nausea sets in, our pilots are fully prepared. Here's our procedure:

1
Calm Glide

Immediate switch to straight, calm gliding flight.

2
Breathing

Calming communication and guided breathing techniques.

3
Approach

Gentle descent toward the nearest safe landing spot.

4
Recovery

Complete care on the ground until you feel better.
